The unitary German economic system is created. 18 countries of the German Federation abolished the customs barriers and paved the way for active trade. Almost at the same time, Carl Bechem founds the first oil plant in Hagen.
1860
Abraham Lincoln becomes President of the United States of America. Meanwhile Carl Bechem moves into new production sites in the Elberfelderstraße with his growing company.
1889
After a three years' construction time the Eiffel Tower in Paris is inaugurated just in time for the world exposition. At BECHEM, mineral oils replace the previously used vegetable oils. The motto of the company: "Quality safeguards business" becomes the promise to Carl Bechem's customers
